Following its expansion to the UK, Agicap shares tips on creating an office space from scratch 

Cashflow management startup Agicap launched in Lyon, France in 2016 and expanded to the UK in 2022. Timothée Clément, Country Opener in UK and Ireland at Agicap and one of the founding members of the UK team, was tasked with creating an office space that fit their needs.

“We went from having no UK office while we worked remotely from our headquarters in Lyon to having our first UK employees joining Techspace Shoreditch in London in a small eight-desk office,” says Clément. “We then expanded to a second office just next door, taking our total to 16 desks.” 

As with many startups in the early days, Clément notes there were very few traditional work perks at the beginning, but Agicap were increasingly being able to invest in team events and snacks, in addition to extras that the workspace provides.

“As the UK team has grown, our culture has shifted from very entrepreneurial – with few benefits, for example – to progressively more perks, benefits, comfort, stability, team spirit and fun things,” says Clément. 

“This has been achieved as the team and sense of belonging to a country as part of the Agicap Group grows, all while staying very impact-oriented, fast-paced, and in a conquest mindset like the rest of Agicap.”

What advice would Clément give to founders scaling their business who are mindful of maintaining their company culture?

“Never compromise on your key values,” he says. “Local office presence and real interactions are key, as well as homogeneity with the culture in other offices of the rest of the group. This is also facilitated by some travel across the offices to keep strong bonds alive, creating an opportunity to learn from other offices and get energy from other people.”
