COVID-19 Government Support for German SMEs

Sofortpaket I Berlin

Loans that are given out by the IBB. Minimum of 3 years in business as a requirement.

This program ended for now because there had been too many companies applying but pretty sure they will increase the budget again.

Sofortpaket II Berlin

Grants from the Berlin Senate up to 15k for companies. The grant can be used for salaries and Business expenses.

The grants will not need to be paid back if no overcompensation can be found after the check. For this you would need to prove (when they check in the future) that you had a liquidity problem for 3 months caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and that you didn't have economic difficulties "wirtschaftliche Schwierigkeiten" before. The question here is how to interpret "wirtschaftliche Schwierigkeiten".

Soforthilfepaket des Bundes

Grants paid up to 15k for companies to cover running business costs (like rent etc.) but not for salaries. For this you would need to prove (when they check in the future) that you had a liquidity problem for 3 months caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and that you didn't have economic difficulties "wirtschaftliche Schwierigkeiten" before (same as Soforthilfe II above). The grant will be taxed as normal income and can be combined with the money from the Berliner Senat...

NB It could be requested together with Soforthilfe II in the same form.
