Space to Grow: Business Insider’s London HQ

Business Insider joined us in 2014 and set up their first UK office in Hoxton. Since then the team has grown from 2 to >82 and moved 4 times across the Techspace portfolio. As we celebrate 5 years of working together and their move into our new Shoreditch South location, we ask the team why they’ve stuck with us over the past 5 years.

The Challenge

With Business Insider’s continued growth they required flexible workspace that would accommodate the current team and appeal to new hires. As a team of nearly 100, they needed a private space that could be altered to suit their culture and business activities, with the option to add or reduce space as required.

The Solution

We were able to meet their requirements with our Enterprise product, a managed workspace solution that eliminates the time, cost and hassle associated with taking a lease. The self-contained space allows the team to build their own identity and environment.

“The balance between ownership and flexibility is key for us. Now that we’re approaching 70–100 people in London we need somewhere we can make our own. Harnessing culture is a lot about the environment, so being able to design our own workspace is invaluable to the business.” Julian Childs, Managing Director.

We worked with Business Insider to create their own space with a dedicated entrance, branded reception, presentation areas and most notably a green screen room. This gives them the flexibility to film when they choose and saves the team production studio costs. The space is large enough to hold >80 desks but the room has been broken up into various work zones: lounges, hot desks, breakouts and booths.

“Shoreditch South is a really bright, modern space. It’s a good fit for us because we have the open work environment with the privacy of different work areas and meeting rooms”.

Business Insider’s new workspace

The move to Scrutton Street brings the team back to an area that they love. In Shoreditch they are situated at the intersection of London’s financial and technology districts, among their target audience. Office Manager and HR Coordinator, Megan Ingham noted that the area is also great for attracting and retaining talent,

“Shoreditch is a really great creative area. It has great transport links and young, talented people want to work here. Not just for their work life but also for their social life”.

Great Eastern Street, Shoreditch

Teams located at Shoreditch South are the first to benefit from our hub and spoke model, which allows scale-up businesses to have their own, customisable workspace with access to shared services and facilities in our central ‘hub’ building.

Shoreditch South is our sixth location in East London. We’re continuing to add locations that support mid-size businesses who have outgrown shared spaces and want to build their own identity and environment. We’re thrilled to support Business Insider’s growth as we expand our network to include 2000 members across >100,00 sq ft in Europe.
